Light On a Distant Shore

Across the lake, someone, tonight,
Has placed a lamp, so golden light
Spills warmly out, upon the shore,
Where I had walked sometime before
And then the music blessed the air.
A violin, with tone so rare,
Played by a hand that understood
The spell that lies in string and wood.

The songs they played, were known to me.
All stored within my memory.
Sweet nostalgia filled my heart
And places, faces, played their part
In carrying my thoughts away,
So I re-lived a bygone day,
Where I was young and life was fair.
How I enjoyed my visit there!

Then silence brought me back to see
The moon in her trajectory,
Had moved beyond, behind the hill
And deepened shadows, plus the chill,
All sent me slowly from my chair
To seek the warmth and comfort where,
Four walls would lock the night outside,
But from my feelings, I can't hide!

This is wonderful Betty.  Where do you hide those lovely words you seem to find so easily.  Love, Joyce

Our warm memories and feelings never leave us. They just get stored on a shelf until we are ready to look once more.
Really lovely poem, enjoyed much.

The memories of serene are a pleasure, but, then reality sets in.

Four walls would lock the night outside,
But from my feelings, I can't hide!

Thanks,
