-Wishing Star-

Looking up at the night sky, breathing in
The healing smoke that cleans my soul
But slowly destroys my lungs, I realized
With a sudden pang of regret and loss
That I could not see the moon tonight.

It’s just as well I suppose, for my moon
Has long since gone forever from the sky.
The green eyed angel I once held so dear
Lies tonight within the arms of another.
So much for the fairy tale for her and I.

And then, as I wiped away tears I did not
Know I was crying, and feeling their heat
And wetness on my finger tips, my gaze
Fell upon a wishing star, alone and silent
Burning brighter than my heart has for an age.

Time and nothing else, save the love of another
Will heal this hole inside of me.  And though
I can no longer view the wretched moon
With ardor and peace, I shall remember
My wishing star, and hope and light shall

Once again, o’er fill my soul.  That chunk
Of rock I esteemed so high will never again
Bring my heart to sunken depths, and her light
May fall to whomever she deems worthy, for
My moon has lost her hold on my tender heart.
