Returning

Like tall, green spears, the tops of trees
Are swaying in the morning breeze.
Draw gentle arcs across the sky
Of summer hue, where white clouds fly.

Around me is a woods I find
Brings peaceful thoughts into my mind.
There is a sense of harmony,
With nature, as it's meant to be!

The ground squirrels scamper here and there.
The bravest of them often dare
To come up to my feet and stand,
Just hoping there is food at hand.

Pileated woodpeckers fly by
To land upon a tree nearby.
Their red heads and their size compete
With these small creatures at my feet.

The lake is ruffled, deepest blue
And in the distance, there's a few
Small islands, hazed in mists that rise
Like plumes of smoke, into the skies.

It's not surprising I return,
Enjoying everything I learn
About this world of natural things
And where my troubles all take wings!

I know you had fun, but it's always good to get back.  Your poetry says it well.  I will be leaving early tomorrow and won't be back until Friday sometime.  Love, Joyce

Dear Marge:  Thanks so much!  Ron, Ellie and I had a lovely time and every day was perfect!  Around 80 each day and cloudless skies. Ron built all kinds of sand castles on the beach.  The water was a bit cold for swimming but we waded a lot.  As good as it was, I missed my friends here at PIP! Good to hear from you.

I'm new to your list of admirers, but kind friends in pip bade me "Find Trillium."  How glad I am!
You depict an idyllic interlude, being touched by nature's beauty and her creatures. One sees the mists, is charmed by the beautiful woodpecker and finds the poem is, like good things, over too soon.  Nicely done.  Ken J
