Shadow of the Past

Son of my son, you are coming today,
You're welcome my darling, God speed your way.
I'm thinking of one who was so much like you
Who said he'd see me in a short day or two.
Happily waiting, the day never came.
Please pardon the tears, your voice is the same.

You say you're bringing someone to meet me;
That she's the one you'll be making your bride.
My arms will be open to welcome you both;
And I'll be smiling, my tears will have dried.
It was some time ago that another
Brought the love of his life to my door;
I opened it wide and I gathered them in.
Now you're coming as he did before.

This is a new day and you are the one
Bringing glad news, I won't spoil it, Grandson.

This touched me, brought tears to my eyes. I am sure your son is casting down his blessings on the young couple also. Take care Joyce.
