Walking around the lonely streets,
Searching for anything, something to eat.
Scared of life, scared of day,
'd give anything to get away.
No friends or family to speak of,
Wish sometimes, could fly away to above,
In hope of a better life there,
Maybe, even someone who cares.
Need to get some shoes, my feet are cold.
Can't afford to pay, choose to be bold.
Outgrew my only coat last year.
Need some money to get some new gear.
It's amazing how poverty hurts the world to day,
Wish someone would help, make it all go away.

there are 2 ways of spreading light: to be the candle, or the mirror that reflects it. -unknown

Jennifer~
This one moves me to near-tears.

I've always prayed for a night when NO ONE, child or adult, goes to bed cold or hungry~
I guess it's one of the things that bothers me most about our affluent society ... only a small fraction of the populus seems to give a gosh-darn about those less fortunate than themselves.

I've worked with many organizations to try to do my small part ... sometimes it just doesn't seem enough~

A loving and caring write~

The really scary part, is once you've gone there...it's not always so easy to pull yourself out again.

You do capture it well, and yes, that's experience speaking.  Thank you for sharing this with us.

I hope these woes like years, have past.
Bad things like good don't always last.
But we all know out there, somewhere
are hurting ones who need our care.

This was worth bringing back.  Love, Joyce

I hope you all don't get the impression that this was written from experience, because it's not. Thanks for replying ~ and bringing it back.

Dear Jennifer,

your poetry depicts poverty in a achingly beautiful way.. i felt kind of melancholic after reading it. beautiful
