Makes me wonder...
what we uphold
and while the world is spinning amidst the stars,
the turmoil of imbalance tips the scales

Priorities...
is what they taught
while growing up amidst the elders who lead the way,
saying balance in all things won't tip the scales

I hang my head...
for it makes me wonder
why it's so hard to see imperatives & simplicities
But the heart along with mind amends those scales

Hanging in the balance...
While your children go to school
and all your daily routine workings are to provide
that table that you set
Your mind's on mundane things...it is so easy
   to forget...

Makes me wonder...
what we believe
Money,Relationships,all...can be taken in a flash
Do you,within your comfort,acknowlege other's tribulation?

Days go on...
so much to count
While the world keeps spinning, what chance to save?
What good is just one voice when so many tip the apathetic scales
...on the other side?

Hanging in the balance...
are the things we fear to see
Some are too busy with all their workings to provide
But a "Table" is being set...
while your mind's on other things...

One that won't be easy to forget.

Points to ponder:

1.This last week I watched a news program that had a segment on comedians who use George W. Bush in their routines and any others who have an opposing opinion of him.It stated that any negative reference to him was considered a "touchy" subject.

2.Millions have marched in protest of war, some violently.

3.I heard on the news last night,a soldier exclaiming the opulent lifestyle of Saddam Hussein, while his people live in poverty.I sat open-eyed in disbelief at his ignorance.

4.Billions of dollars were spent on the war on Iraq.

Firstly,Since my memories of Richard Nixon and the Watergate scandal, every single president since has been the brunt of a joke.Carter:peanuts,Ford:clumsiness, and Reagan was absolutely ridiculed.Anyone remember Dan Quail?Not-to-mention,George Bush,Sr.! Clinton, anyone? So,my question is;why not our current president? What's wrong with this picture?

Secondly,we have many who hold in their hearts a strong protest against this war in Iraq. Some have gone beyond sense, violent in the name of Peace. But  is war the only thing to stongly protest? The thousands if not millions of people who are now homeless in THIS country, yes,THIS country,do they not need our "rising up",our support? How many people do you know who are protesting our country's lack of care for our own people who are impoverished, forgotten, forsaken?

Thirdly, the soldier with his statement. How many people do you know have a bank account,a family,a nice wardrobe, food on the table,a home?Computer? Stereo?TV?...and/or a myriad of other luxuries that are commonly taken for granted? Our government and our rich are on top of the homeless issue in our own country, right? Not! Need I say more?

Fourthly,I'm saying more. The billions, yes,BILLIONS of dollars spent on The war...could not a fraction of those tax dollars be spent on food, housing, job training, schooling, counseling, or whatever other need you and I take for granted for those ones out there who need a second chance at life, who need our caring assistance? This past winter, there were 11,000 homeless children in New York City, alone! That's just the children.Multiply that figure by who knows how much and you arrive at a figure that boggles the mind. And this is the most powerful, the richest, the most influential country in the world!

It is moving on into warmer, kinder weather here in the heart of Pennsylvania,USA.There are homeless people even here in the streets of Harrisburg. And I thank GOD for the warmth, not just for myself. I think to myself,"What if we even just contributed plane tickets for all those who are on the streets in the colder regions so that they could at least be in a climate where they would not freeze to death".Is that absurd,I wonder?I suppose it is...for just like the rest of us,like all of us,there is more to life and fulfillment than a warmer place.

Again,I am urging you to remember those who do not have what you have...and they are Americans.
Please,if you are able,do what you can and pass the message on.Peace,my friends.

Another brilliant and insightful piece of writing from your pen.  Your 'Points to Ponder' well taken as well. For me, personally I find that using a President/ VP for the brunt of ones jokes is distasteful, disrespectful and totally unwarranted. The homeless situation is a heart breaking situation indeed and I have shed many tears over that one, unfortunately one's tears do not help this desperate condition.

SPIRIT,thank you so much for your comments and your Heart.I totally agree with you in regards to not disrespecting the president.
To be honest, though, and I hate to say this, but I have become quite cynical in regards to politicians. It seems that so many in the recent past have been caught with their hands in the cookie jar,so-to-speak.Another
thing is that I am amazed by those who still trust so completely.I think of Hitler, how so many blindly followed and believed that he was doing so much good for their country.
Of course, believe me,I am not comparing Bush to Hitler.I do not believe that Mr. Bush is
that corrupt or twisted,it's just that the
past political debacles have tempered my trust with much doubt.Yes,over the years I have been disappointed  and amazed by the amount of disrespect that has been shown towards many of our presidents, but I have to admit(Am I ashamed to admit this?Hmmmm.),
when I saw Jim Carrey's impersonation of George(the father)Bush...lol...well,he just cracked me up!

Anyway,my Californian friend,I hope that your tears of compassion are a motivator for you to pass along the info and the web sites
I included to your friends, family and neighbors. The more people are edified and moved, the more something can be done.

Peace to you,SPIRIT

Geoffrey

This is a well written piece and I love your tender heart.  We have to talk about these things and use our influence at the polls.  I give thanks that we live in a country where we may ridicule those in power if we so desire but I think that these comedians could use their voices more efficiently by taking up the cause for peace and benificence in other ways than poking fun at whoever is in power.  I am sure it is a terrible burden to be responsible for all of us.  Have you ever noticed how rapidly our presidents age?  I wrote my poems for peace before the war began, then I just wrote poems for a quick end to it and now I can write for peace again.  But there is nothing humorous about it.  Love, Joyce

Thank you for such a nice compliment,Flower.
I too like to read poems and offerings by others that make me ponder the workings of the world. But thinking alone will not help those who freeze even on late Summer nights.
I've been there. We need a kinder world,a thoughtful world, one that is willing to give even in tiny ways."Littles" multiplied are
"Largers".

Dear Joyce, you are so sweet and such an inspiration to me.I can't tell you how nice it is find your beautiful poetry and your kind visitations and replies to my offerings.
You most definitely make me feel at "Home" here in "Passions".It's so good to find a Home...

Yes,"Home",my friends,is what it's all about.
There are few words which convey so many meanings, connotations.Coming from a broken home,I found much to repair...and somehow the Heart keeps searching, searching for home. Many things can happen to one...but ones who truly have care within can help heal this world...so much seems to be killing it.We have one life filled with opportunities to feed each other. It is time for a banquet.

Peace,Geoffrey
