The Columbia River Gorge and U

The clashing winter wind does things:
wind as cold as frost and trees
blown by her bitter bite (you weep
and fight to) stand upright not bent
but shaking overlook the sea-
like whitecaps on the surging river.
Columbia deep within her bed
of towering rock and conifer.

"Oh, do not ask, 'What is it?'
Let us go and make our visit."
-Eliot

An excellent picture you have painted with words! I like this. Chris

I lived in Portland and often traveled through the Columbia River Gorge and have seen it looking as you describe.  It's never a boring trip as the river and cliffs are endlessly interesting. Nice poem.

so vibrantly descriptive, Chris...Makes me want to go there from here on the east coast. Ellie
