Rainy Reverie

The attic, on a rainy day,
Was just the finest place to play.
Adventureland and magically,
Most anyplace you wished to be.

Oh, how we made the rafters ring
With songs of childhood we would sing
And how they'd echo every shout,
When chasing our dear friends about.

A storeroom raid, we'd always dare,
To eat the dates and raisins there
And now I sit here, in the gloom
Embraced by this old, dusty room.

The voices call from out the past.
I think of when I played here last
And fill my head with dreams of when
Grandchildren play here once again!

Joyce:  Thanks for your comments.  I imagine you also had an attic to play in when you were small?

Wonderful memories and this lovely poem brought back some for me too. i loved raiding my grandmothers attic...I can recall the musty, delicious smell of it as I write this! Ellie

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.
