Catphobia

I met a man, fearful of cats.
If he meets one, it's he who scats.
It's a picture that's not pretty;
Sixfoot man afraid of kitty.

I find that one of life's absurds,
Although I am afraid of birds.
I fear they will get in my hair
And peck until my scalp is bare.

A bat one time came in my room.
My mama chased it with a broom.
I screamed and covered up my head,
Fearing that bat was in my bed.

I think birds make a pretty scene,
If there's a windowpane between.
But one flying too close over,
Makes me run and look for cover.

Phobias, I guess we all have something that we are afraid of, Joyce. This brought to mind Alfred Hitchcock's movie, "The Birds". I was afraid of them for a little while after I saw that movie!

Joyce:  Cute poem!  It's funny what people fear, isn't it?  I remember one time, when we lived in Nevada, a bat flew in the open bathroom window and I screamed and so did a friend who was visiting.  We threw a blanket over our heads and stayed there until the men found the bat and chased it out!

I like birds as long as they aren't flyng over my head. When I was small the redwing blackbirds used to divebomb us when we were out looking for wild strawberries.  Joyce

What a wonderful poem... We all have our little quirks, don't we?  You've done a great job of showing us just how absurdly real they are to us...

Mice do it for me, I have sat on top of a washing machine in total fear after seeing one in the laundry room.  When I see the mess on my car after I have parked it under a tree, from our feathered friends I am thankful that cows don't fly. Another great one - thank you.

fear is a beast conjured in our own minds and is singular to each of us in our own way. after all, what is there to fear except fear itself?

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost
