Misinterpretations

Could I but pen one line of verse
That would survive my day,
Then I like Emily, content
To hide the rest away.

One line concise and pertinent
Which would reveal such truth
There'd be no need for analyst
Nor arrogant word sleuth.

A line that would stand by itself,
Not plumbed by the elite;
To be perverted endlessly
'Til bowing to defeat.

dear Nightshade, Midnightblues and Trillium.

Thank you for your responses.  A poet's applause.  The reason for this little tirade was that I heard a modern poet say that it is not what he is saying but what we interpret his works as saying that counts.  To me this is so much smoke.  If one has something to say, it should be said so anyone can understand without interpretation at least by the second or third reading.  Love, Joyce

Wonderful, and I totally agree that the written word should be understandable.

I am an enigma, even unto myself.

Joyce, I agree. I have posted at many sites and am amazed at the variety of unusual interpretations of my writings. It would seem that some writers find the need to analize, critisize, and otherwise tear apart another's offering. I write for two reasons. To please my self and, to please myself...
That's what I like so much about the Corner. All are accepted and we encourage each other.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost
