CHILDHOOD'S END

One day a child.
Giggling,
Fidgety,
A child.
Then
In one short step,
A woman.
Fear,
To young
For womanhood,
Not old enough
To understand.
Proud,
Yet ashamed
Of passing glances.
Tight sweater,
Tight skirt,
High heels,
Showing promises
Of what's to come.
From girl
To woman,
But more
Important still,
To be,
Above all
A LADY

I am an enigma, even unto myself.
A puzzle unsolved, a mystery maybe until beyond death.  ©das

yes, so true... I'm not confine with tight sweater, tight skirt, high heel, etc though. We just have to realize we are free! Free to wear comfortable clothes and those that suit our bodies...not for others. Yes, need to learn to be a lady... I'm trying to do that...without much success...hehe...guess I'm still learning

Maybe I am not praying...but I know...
You are always listening...to my soul...

Freedom today is true. But for me? I had to walk by those tough, mean and beautiful 'Teddy Boys' and when they whistled at you or tried to pick you up, the day was made. Didn't help towards the 'lady' image though. Thanks for the nice words both of you.

SPIRIT:  When I was young, being a "lady" was compulsary!  Anyone who wasn't,  was really frowned on.  Of course that was quite a few years ago! Even so, that didn't keep the boys from whistling, which we were taught to totally ignore! Secretly though, it warmed our hearts!

A lady does not wear shorts.  A lady does not cross her legs.  A lady does not slouch.  Oh it was tough being a lady in the olden days. Joyce
