QUESTION MARKS

Have I walked the path
Of an Egyptian queen,
I wonder how many wars,
First hand, I have seen.
In a soldier’s uniform
Was I cowardly or brave,
Did I wear animal skins,
And live in a cave.
Have I sold my body,
And lost my soul.
Have I been wealthy
Or lived on the dole.
Did fear and starvation
Walk by my side,
Did I have self-esteem,
Walk, head held high.
Have alcohol and drugs
Been my friend,
Did I ever bring my life
To its own end.
In the Tower of London
Did I lose my life,
Was I an awful husband,
A wonderful wife.
Have I hidden from
Tax collectors
In forests green,
Was I the prettiest
Or ugliest,
Ever to be seen.
Have I sailed
With pirates
On a choppy sea,
Have I ever been you,
Or only me.
How many cemeteries
Bear my name,
Was I always different,
Or always the same.
So many questions,
So little time,
Are such thoughts
Everyone’s,
Or only mine?

I am an enigma, even unto myself.
A puzzle unsolved, a mystery maybe until beyond death.  ©das

I think we have all toyed with the idea of past lives.  Sometimes I wonder where some of the ideas for our poetry come from.  Way back in our repressed memory of another age?  Joyce

I really love this! I wonder the same sometimes too... wonder whether there is past lives and dream of how it might have been. It is a fun exercise of imagination...but mine is always about heroin and romantic with some tradgy ending... hehe...what about yours? email me and tell me. what you dream you were. talk to you soon.

Maybe I am not praying...but I know...
You are always listening...to my soul...

SPIRIT:  Enjoyed your poem!  Being poets, I think everyting fuels our imaginations.  I have had many of these same thoughts and know others have too.  On top of that, I see faces in everything.......linoleum, leaves hanging from trees, roots of trees, flowers, etc.  I don't often tell people as don't want them to think I am lossing it!!

No, I don't believe in past lives, but I love your poem! Very creative!
