PUBLICITY (IF YOU AIN’T JUST A PASSER-BY)

Only do this to impress you coz I’m hungry for you,
Only park my car outside your bar coz what else could I do?
Don’t mean to make you angry, don’t mean to make you hurt,
Only want you to comment on my ripped red shirt.
Only action makes an impact, only stormwinds shift the sands -
People turn the other way if you’re just sitting on your hands.
Only want a new beginning, it ain’t meant to be the end,
And with God away on holiday I need another friend.

Now I got your attention,
Now I caught your eye,
The world can do what it likes with me
If you ain’t just a passer-by.

Took a taxi down the rental, picked a Shelby up dirt cheap,
Paid the guys in foreign currency I didn’t need to keep.
Took a drive down Route 666, headlights hot on full,
Any other night I’d scan the streets and buy another pull.
Parked her up and fixed the wiring, she ain’t moving till I’m done,
Till our night explodes in darkness, till we’re burning like a sun.
Then I waited for your footsteps spinning cross the floor
But you only danced with big shots, I couldn’t take no more.

Now I got your attention,
Now I caught your eye,
The world can’t keep me from paradise
If you ain’t just a passer-by

And I see you’re still devoted to the movers and the shapers,
And the diamond cars and fat cigars of folks who quietly rape us.
But I know you’ll now remember me, you stared me in the face.
So Goodbye, gonna soar off high, Eternity’s my place.

I got your attention,
You looked me in the eye.
Maybe we’ll meet again some life
If you ain’t just a passer-by.

I like the 5th stanza in particularly. Well done.. I haven't read many poems in this style
