The New Year Comes!

There should have been some fifes and drums
To let us know the New Year comes!
I stayed awake so I could hear
The noise that marks the turning year,
But all I heard was silence, deep,
As though the world was fast asleep.
No sound of traffic, dog or owl,
But I did hear a coyote howl!
I wonder if he had a clue
He ushered out Two-Thousand-Two?

there wasn't a firework here...silence too...

But isn't it just how time fly by? Silently, tip-toe by your pillow at night...

There was noise aplenty where I was. Both inside and out.  Inside we were playing Cranium and other games and outside the fireworks could be heard and seen from all over the nighborhood.  Even Hannah, not yet two, joined the party and stayed awake until 3 am like the rest of us.  Hannah will be two tomorrow, January fourth.  Love, Joyce

Deb:  Even though I live in the country, there are neighbors who always celebrate the New Year in a big way, but not this year. We have all been down with bad colds, and maybe they were too! Even one neighbor who fires a canon at midnight, abstained!

Joyce:  Thanks for reading.  Hope Hannah has a great birthday.  I remember when she was born.  How did your family like the book you created for them?  I'll bet they were thrilled.

Doesn't it feel funny?! I reckon 2002 went far too fast. I never really felt it started, before it had finished! I guess I was too busy to nitice it going by..

I thoroughly enjoyed this. You are a natual with rhyme! I myself have unfortunately never mastered it, hehe.. mine always sound SOOO forced. Probably because they are!!!

Love,
Lynne

Lynne:  Thanks for the nice remarks.  I too, found this last year just sailed past. I would rather they didn't go quite so swiftly! I'm racking up too many of them!
