Across the Stream

There is a span across the stream,
Where dragonflies and lilies dream.
A wooden arch, from side to side
And underneath, the fat trout hide.
With its green paint, it's hard to see
The bridge, against the willow tree,
Until you're close and there it stands,
A pathway to forbidden lands.

The other side is thick with trees.
The faintest path is all one sees,
That disappears into the brush,
Inhabited by wren and thrush.
Mysterious, it seems to be.
Enticing and it beckons me,
But from my garden side, I know,
There's little chance that I will go
Explore, to find the wonders there.
The owner doesn't want to share!

There is a gate upon that end
Across the bridge, to clearly send
This message to whoever could
Think of wandering in his wood.
So I'll enjoy what I can see
And leave him to his privacy!

Betty, I was so excited about going further and exploring more. I was sitting here smiling as I could see all you were describing. As tempting as it was I think you did the right thing in not sneaking on, lol. What a fun read. Thanks for sharing.
Hugs,
Juls

This is too pretty to miss Betty, but I won't be able to read much until probably a few days before Christmas.  I'll find them.  Love, Joyce

Juls:  Anything forbidden is always tempting, but, I really was rather afraid of my neighbor "across the stream".

Very enticing write...I'd love to cross that bridge just once to revel in the natural beauty that lies on the other side of the stream...maybe if a group of us from pip went with you it would be alright???

believe in what your heart feels...

how sad that you are unable to satisfy your curiosity. what a shame to fence up the worlds beauty. but, perhaps in your minds eye, you can conjur a vision more beautiful than that which you seek. after all, you are a poet...

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

pegasus111:  Thanks for your comments. I know what my side of the stream looked like, so I can imagine the other side is equally lovely!
