I wanted to be a lawyer, I dreamt of success,
I had desperately wanted to be the best.

Look at me now.
I don’t stand a chance.

The list on the wall framed in my mind
With a worthless score I am now bind

Look at me now.
I worked so hard.
It was all for nothing,
Just a waste of time.

To put it simple,
I lack what it takes.
That je ne sais quoi belongs not with me.

I hate myself for trying so much.
I despise my ambition and drive.
I aimed for the moon I landed on the stars.
I lived for success, with failure my spirit is dead.

Look at me now.
What can you see?
A pointless girl,
Trying too hard to do well.

Sitting here now on a chair of resentment,
Smothered by clouds of self-hatred.

Look where I am from.
I don’t stand a chance.
I’m a nothing, a no one.

Looking around with vengeful eyes
I loathe the ones who succeed.
I see you there,
You have that flare,
Unlike me you can achieve your dream.

Look at me now.
Pity me not.
Understand this,
Best to realise the unattainable now,
Than to live forever in hope of the dream.

cherrylips:  You do have what it takes to be a poet, as I have been reading your posts. You also have what it takes to go forward and accomplish big things. We don't always make wise choices the first time, but that doesn't mean there isn't something better waiting in the wings. don't give up on yourself!

You aimed for the moon and landed on stars.

What is wrong with stars?

Even Abraham Lincoln had some failures and I think you are young enough to get back up and do it.  Joyce

What can i say? It was a good poem, and there is nothing wrong with chasing your dreams even if you land upon some stars.

Stars are a guide....a light if you like..maybe one day i'll show you my poem on what the stars are for me.

Until then, keep that chin up, there are always ways through the good times and the bad.

GeeZ cherrylips,

if you ask me, i really like your straightforward attitude, and of course this piece too. keep venting k? seems like all of us enjoy reading your pieces, though its not that we're gloating ... get it off your chest and lets all share. cheers
