I was hurting deep inside
and you just stood there
puffed up with false pride
while your cupboard was bare
and I cried out to share
but you wanted nothing from me.
Can't you see how
you starved us both?

False pride is hard to broach.  Your poetry should do it.  Joyce

I wish they could see how their false pride hurts us. Maybe we wouldn't have to deal with so much pain. I had someone in my life who has nothing but false pride. He still comes around, sometimes. I am sorry you went through this, too.

Thank you for your reply, Joyce. It's too late for broaching, sad to say, as the intended listener has passed away.

Smart one, thank you, and I am sorry that you too ever had to experience this feeling. Somehow, I think the longer we all live, the more some of us will have to relate.

'puffed up'

This envoked an imagery that is so vivid in my mind~

You know what they say-- pride goes before a fall.
Hope things are well for you now.

Very sad. Pride can make people blind to reality. You expressed that well in this little piece.

The cupboard bare the hunger yet there.

Marge, glad to have your reading me.

Deb, yes, things are OK

Denise, thank you so much. Glad you enjoyed the write of this.

Dick, bare cupboards cry out to be full filled. Thank you, as always.
