Grey maintains
  No warmth remains
     Refraining planes
Bleeding stains our separate lanes
  Eternal strains of lonely pains
     that are our chains

9/23/2000

There is a yearning within this Heart to bring awareness to others as to things that should not be.
There are so many issues that need to be dealt with within this crazy world;the environment, the economy, saving the dolphins and whales, etc. Many of these I have an incredible "Passion" for...but none so much,so deeply as to the ethical, humane, and Compassionate treatment of those of us who have lost so greatly, who have gone down so far that it is next to impossible to climb back up to any type of stability or any type of "home".There are so many barriers, ones that you do not even think of unless,God forbid, you ever get to that place of total abandonment.Hopelessness can eat away your last fragments of "self".There is something we can do,if even just inform each other. But it will take more than that for those ones who find themselves freezing on late summer nights(never imagining it was possible...until I was there). This is the web site to an organization that is based in N.Y.C.,right off of Washington Square within Greenwich Village(I spent many hopeless days within that park...and many restless nights).Take a good look through the site. There are many pictures depicting New York life and there is much to see, but most importantly, read their mission statement.
There is something we all can do.Peace...

Now I understand the other poem better, the Washington Park one. Thanks, I will follow the link.
You have such a gentle and compassionate heart. Thanks for sharing.

Geoff, I posted a link to this in Open, and a short poem to thank you for your gentle sharing spirit. I tried to email you, but the mail was rejected and sent back to me by my ISP. Hope all is well.

Hello Geoff

I feel so strongly about all you said and I think the world needs more people such as yourself.  There needs to be more compassion and understanding towards one another and I believe we should look deeper into a person instead of judging them by face value alone.  Thank you for sharing your caring heart.

Take care........Sue

Kacy...I don't know what to say.You have touched me deeply.I want you to know that there is no pedastal that I will feel very comfortable upon.I am most definitely flesh and blood...with other deficits or maladies that are unique unto myself,as with any other.Believe me,from my Heart I am so moved and grateful for your words and feeling.Yes,my experiences may be unique...but it is not only for those said experiences that I am motivated to action.Along with my belief in God,and knowing what abandonment is like in its many forms,I can only say that just simply an observation of the world should be enough to stir anyone...anyone who has a Heart...to action. How can anyone ignore these things that should not be?
I will try to tell you succinctly, there was one occurance in NYC back in 1984.It was another of my unstable periods of existence. Two weeks prior to this happening,I met a man, whom this story is about, who was sitting on the steps of a  prominent landmark in Greenwich Village. He told me at that time that he struggled with alcoholism and was "clean" for two weeks.I took him for a coffee and tried to give him as much encouragement as possible. One week later,I came back to NYC,this time to move there and try to "make it" for my second time. This one night, days later,I was on 7th Ave across from this park where I froze in and spent so many crazy hours at three years before, and observed two totally impoverished and intoxicated men right there on the sidewalk. The one man was passed out lying on his side in his own urine. The other was barely cognizant, but still able to speak and move around. All of a sudden,I recognized him as the fellow who was hoping to be on a better road and kick that debilitating habit. My heart ached.I went over to him and spoke to him, trying to jar his memory in reference to our previous meeting.I succeeded...then he threw his arms around me.You know,he smelled so bad,...but you know when it comes down to what the most important things are,he needed care,to know that someone cared.Truly,he needed more than just a hug.I made my way to a phone just steps away and called for an ambulance. What would you do in this circumstance?I didn't know what else to do.The ambulance arrived within minutes along with the police.A policeman shouted aloud,"Who the @%$^ made the call?",and I answered to him that it was I.He said to me,and I will never forget this,"Who do you think you are...a *@^$%#'
Good Samaritan?".I was absolutely floored. My only thought was,"Wouldn't anyone do as I did?Wouldn't anyone care or feel as helpless as I,yet feel overwhelmingly compeled to do something, anything for them?".It was an extreme lesson as to the condition of the world.
Kacy,I must do something about it.I know that Hopelessness.I know what feeling totally alone is.Yes,these along with the obvious state of simply not having that "Place",that roof over your head where there is food on the table. But there certainly is so much more said within the song,"A House Is Not A Home".
Truly,Kacy,Denise,Gentle Spirit,Joyce,Marge,Sue, Betty,Janet Marie,Allan,CHILI(and I'm sorry if I forgot anyone else)...I can not tell you how much your words and actions actually make me believe in things like Christmas again
(holidays are next to impossible for me to deal with anymore).I will accept any words of advice or ideas from any of you. Please pass the "Word".I now believe that we can make a difference.
Again,Kacy, thank you so much for your expression to me.Warms me so much.

Geoff, this really touched my heart. It is such a blessing to know that someone is so touched by these situations. I pray that God will guide you in the way to be most effective for people in these circumstances. So many of us would do more if we knew what to do.
Thanks for sharing your heart with us.

What you say is true. May God bless you for your giving heart. Compassion is the next step to unconditional love. With that we can learn to share. I know of someone who daily makes sandwiches, and hand deliveres them to the homeless...every day, without fail.

Thank you so much,Vicky and Deb.I truly appreciate your compassionate comments.Deb,you don't know how good it is to hear of this one who gives from the Heart. We need more souls like that on this dark planet.Jesus said,"What you do for the least of these,I will do for you."The Bible also says that we may never know of the possibility of our giving to Angels.I know that angels or not, anyone in pain is going to get my attention.
