Flouncing in your regalia
   Passing shops along the way
Your behavior states you own them
without a single word to say
Shlepping up the byway
   Rodeo Drive beneath your feet
Bounding with elan
with not a single bite to eat
Attitude exuding
   Oozing condescension
The peasants scramble for the crumbs
   you lost in idle concentration
The chaufer's never far
In fact,he's right there at your heels
Voila! At your command
   on highfalutin wheels
Bouncing up the boulevard
   Card within your grasp
Spewing loot like venom
   like a self-indulgent asp
Do you ever stop to wonder
why the scales have tipped your way?
Your behavior states you own them
without a single word to say

I really like this. Well crafted with a great flow and I can't help but picture a skinny, bouffant haired woman with  a mass of face paint and high heels, maybe even carrying a terrier..lol

...and these are the poorest among us and they don't even know it. Great piece of writing, Street Heart!

I can see this (ROFLMAO) sssoooo vividly!!!  Thank you for a picture-pick-me-up this afternoon.  A good reminder never to become so self-absorbed as this one was.

Well done, Geoff. I remember Rodeo Drive.
What I saw the last time (1989) was this reality:

Two 'uplifted' faces
over tight turquoise tank tops
and bright white tennis shorts,
sporting nifty new Nikes underneath
gaudy gold ankle bracelets.
And they looked as lost
as their souls.

I've never been on Rodeo Drive but your words have given me a clear picture of some of it.  Thanks   Joyce

Hey,Kacy,it sounds like you've been as many places as I!Never made it to California, though.I've heard and have seen enough to give me a pretty good understanding of the scene.

Thank you,Joyce.How was your trip?

Geoff~
This is a powerfully penned piece and with
such an important message as well.
Very well said, my friend.
