Reformation Sunday

It is Reformation Sunday;
We are expected to wear red.
I'm rejecting any color
That I might have worn instead.
I remember when my closet
Was filled with that bright hue.
I've not bought a crimson garment
Since I used to dress for you.

I fumble through the blacks and browns
And the many grays and blues.
When did all this dreary dullness
Reflect in the clothes I choose?
Lovely yellows, reds and purples
Are the colors that I see
When I search my mental closet
For a happy memory.

I locate a scarlet jacket
That I purchased long ago.
I will match it with something black
And may feel that special glow,
That I had when dancing with you
In my new vermilion dress.
I will feel your arms around me
And your loving sweet caress.

Tomorrow I will go shopping
And pretend you're at my side.
I'll try on some pretty colors
And will ask you to decide
If I should leave the somber shades
And their gloominess behind.
Then try on the brightest outfits
It is possible to find.

Next year on this special Sunday
I will wear the reddest there.
I may be a little gaudy
But I really do not care.
For I know that you'll be smiling
At the way I show them all,
I can outdo them with brilliance
On this Sunday in the fall.

Red is golden. I think it's the color we wear when we either feel least inhibitated or want to stand out and be free.  Great color, great poem!

Joyce:  I love your poem!  Hope you do go out and buy yourself some red clothes.  I'm sure you'll look marvelous in them!

red is the color of passion and I see passion in your poems. I like this.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost
