I dream of Autumn,
Crisp and apple blossom sweet
Maple treasures,
red and gold,
tossed unto the faded earth.
The lonely thrush
Who stays behind
As geese take wing in heavy sky
She sings her tune from barren limb
to welcome fall as it returns.
Beyond these kudzu covered trees
Autumn paints the crimson fields,
It dons it multi-colored coat
And sets the Northern hills ablaze.

Yet here,
deep in the humid south
The Georgia sun still heats the soil,
Flowers bloom a second time,
Tomatoes ripen on the vine.
Each lazy, barefoot summer day,
ends with an evening cricket tune
Imploring autumn
round the bend,
To cast its eye on southern moon.

Beautiful Romy.  I imagine autumn there is much different than it is here in the Pacific Northwest.  The trees are ablaze with color, but our mornings now are foggy.  It take until noon for the sun to come through.  But Autumn is lovely never-the- less.  Joyce

Romy:  I love your poem.  Autumn is my favorite time of year and it is really spectacular this season.  I have never been in the south, but I'm sure it is very lovely in it's way too.

I love your work, Romy...this piece is no exception...

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

The fall is a welcomed time here in deep south Texas. Much more than welcomed. Much anticipated from the heat. I know just how you feel. This was so pretty to read. Images that bring all the things of my favorite time of year!!!
