That gnarled old oak in grassy glade
provides a multitude of shade
for creatures of both land and air
the wise horned owl and sometimes bear

grey squirrels play in her green hair
bluejays squalk at all who dare
to venture near, though not a threat
a scolding they will surely get

sleek deer abide in nearby wood
doing just what wild deer should
the crows a sharp warning blare
if danger should be lurking there

it’s peaceful here beside the stream
an ideal place to doze and dream
of peace and love and other things
and yes, of trials that living brings

even this oak though strong and tall
must bend to wind or surely fall
this gnarled old oak a lesson holds
just do your best as life unfolds

enjoy the wonders each day reveals
forget about what it conceals
humbly accept what you can see
and a happy person you will be

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

pegasus111:  I just love this!  you must have been in my woods before and walked beside my stream!  That's where I get so much inspiration. I found deer sign and bear yesterday, under an old plum tree.

Oh, I really like this.  Takes me right away from this drab October day to sunny days in the shade of your oak.  Thanks,  Joyce

I love this one, Peg. Surely you spent a peaceful and insightful afternoon! Ellie

pegasus111~
I just love this.
It is so beautifully penned and holds such wisdom in your words.
VERY nicely said.
