Sometime in September

Sometime in September, I am suddenly aware
There's a pleasant smell of woodsmoke
Being carried on the air.
Early in the morning,
I can see a white mist rise
And the flocking birds are leaving.
As I watch them cross the skies,
Finding it is autumn,
Seems to catch me by surprise!

I concur with your poem completely! Today I was wearing a sweat shirt and jeans and for the first time all summer I felt cold. Autumn is my favourite time of year.  Nature gets to paint herself. Fun!

Bonnie:  Autumn does have it's own scent doesn't it.  Of course I guess you could say the same about the other seasons too.
Thanks,

Joyce:  Thanks!  It is getting pretty cool here at night.  Down to 25 degrees.  The flowers are starting to give up!

Betty, time flies and suddenly the beauty of summer is rapidly fading.

I loved this and your wording of this event makes me almost look forward to Fall.

Miah:  Thanks for commenting.  We have so much smoke in the air lately, it's easy to think of fall.  The farmers are burning their fields and we can smell it every day, although, fortunately, we do not live close enough to be impacted by the heavy smoke. Their is a blue haze hanging over everything though.

Marti:  Thanks for reading and I appreciate your response.  Fall is always thrust upon us, even as the leaves are barely turning, as turkey hunting season opens mid-September and the farmers burn their fields.
