Cowboy Lover

I didn't want to break your heart,
I had no thought of that at all
When I told you I'd be leaving
Right after roundup time this fall.
A cowboy's life is lonely,
A saddle, bridle and his horse,
Bedroll just to keep from freezing
When he wanders off his course.

Your own daddy is a rancher.
He should have warned you from the start;
Should have cautioned you to never
Let a cowboy win your heart.
I'll be heading towards the south
Until some wrangling work I find.
Didn't mean to fool you, Honey,
I didn't mean to be unkind.

If I had a stack of money,
I'd settle down, make you my wife.
Until I'm through meandering,
I can't ask you to share my life.
Dry your eyes my little lady
And let me see that pretty smile.
There will be other cowboys
Who will outshine me by a mile.

If you find one with a bankroll
Who can afford a little spread,
Get your lariat and rope him.
Forget about these tears you've shed.
I'll be thinking of you, Honey,
As I travel across the range,
But this cowpoke is a rambler
And I expect I'll never change.

Hallo Joyce
You have a warm heart for horses
A cowboy love his hors as a man or wive.
I like your poem

reminds me of the old Willie Nelson song. nice read Joyce. I like the way this flows.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

Joyce, this is great! You hit the nail right on the head, but if you ever manage to rope a cowboy without breaking his spirit, you have roped something indeed!

Dear Pegasus.  This came from reading  those old Wild West  Magazines of my Dad's when I was young.  If I could slip them behind my mother's back.  Joyce

Joyce:  I enjoyed your poem!  It's a hard life, being a cowboy.  We met many of them when we lived in Nevada and admired their stamina.

Hey,Joyce...notice my icon, hmmm? To tell you the truth,it looks very much like me.The only thing is that I usually wear a black baseball cap,but it's funny...I went to see my sister down in Dallas 3 months ago and bought my first cowboy hat!
Anyway...you have such a way with writing!
I am not big on western movies (some are pretty swell, though),but I think your poem should be made into one, what do you think?
Paramount is waiting!

Sincerely,Geoffrey

Thanks Friends.  I'm mighty afraid that they've already made the movie.  It's an idea though.  Joyce
