Could Be Anywhere...

Holding On?

Walking the usual path
steps precious, unsure
blind to extraordinary.
Head down in thought
contemplation, examination
who am, where, when, searching.

Seeking the once guiding light
undeserved, oh undeserved
where is the way, the quide?
Every step measured, watched
who is this, that...questions
stumbling,the way lost?

Leaves chase each other
breeze teasing, driving
quick taste of daily day.
Here, how, what, where
mind swirls in bits and pieces
leaves gently nipping defeat.

Nearly autumn, this life
walking tomorrow or next
narrow path, stepping aside.
Praying again for someone
to nudge back onto true
friend, where are you?

What is there to show, tell
counting the leaves again
wasted days, they swirl on.
Light once searing, now dim
seems out of reach, can't quite
no answers, no answers, none.

Moments melting together
make a path running beside
tastes of fall, forest leaves.
Holding onto promise, light
clutching once known friend
but, will He hold onto me?

Sounds as though you're taking inventory.  Good idea.  Your Friend will certainly hold on to you.Joyce

Tramp Poet:  I enjoyed your poem, though it does have a melancholy air.  I think most of us react that way to autumn.

Tramp Poet, this was beautiful. I know how it feels to be full of questions and wondering if the life I have lived really had a purpose at all. Everything that comes our way has a lesson in it. The hardest thing I have ever had to do was to look at myself and look at myself honestly. Sounds to me as if you have done that very thing. Thank you for sharing your poem.

Hey,T.Poet,I just had to tell you how much I really enjoyed this.It isn't often that I read this type of meter...and I really enjoy it when something is cryptic. It makes you study and reread, which,to me,makes my enjoyment level rise.I love word-play too.
Looking forward to reading more of your submissions.

Peace,Geoff

P.S.I also enjoyed your analogy there in reference to being in the Autumn time of your life. This time of year gets to me too.

Excellent expression, as always, Daniel. I can always 'feel' your words. Well done!

Of course He will. The question is, will we hold on to Him? haha

I liked this piece. The images are great, the message simple and applies to most.

Thanks for sharing.

I guess one becomes content with one’s poetry when one opens the book ten years hence and does NOT exclaim, “Did I really write this?”
