Nursey
Nursey can you help me?an old lady's pleading cry.
I think i have had an accident, my bed's no longer dry,
I must have had too much to drink, before i fell asleep.
I wonder did i sleep so sound cos of the pills that help me sleep,
Nursey can you help me, i find it hard to see,
Can you help me with my lunch and hold my cup of tea.
I am ashamed to let them know, that life is getting hard,
nursey would you help me, would you pleaseread to me this card.

Nursey would you tell them, that i just cant go on,
I want to be free of pain, i dont want to linger on.
I love my family dearly but they have no time for me,
I am old, incontinent, and immobile plus i cannot see.

nursey will you hold my hand, i dont want to be alone.
Pleasesit with me for a while, just this once ignore that phone,
i want to feel you near me, you have kind and loving ways,
i know it wont be much longer before the end of my days.

Mrs.......i am with you and i am sitting by your side,
I can understand your worries and the pain you try to hide,
I will not be in a hurry, i will give youthe time you need,
i will try to make you comfortable and your lunch to you i will feed,

Mrs......... when the time is near and your life is at its end,
i will sit by you, i will hold your hand,
my heart to you i'll lend
But for now just talk with me, tell me of your life and of your woes,
i will listen to you in confidence, until i have to go,

Mrs ....... you see i have to go my children wait for me,
when i return in the morning, to you i will come and see,
i will help to make you feel clean, i will brush your greying hair,
i will clean your teeth and wipe your nose, you see i really care.

Harmony, this is beautiful.I agree with Arthur. It bespeaks of what so many deny or are too afraid to acknowledge. It seems to me that you have first-hand knowledge of this account. Are you a nurse? If not,you certainly are a sensitive and talented writer.

Thank you for sharing this, though it brought tears to my eyes.

Peace to you,Geoffrey

It take a very special and kind person to perform these sad duties for the aged, ill and lonely.  Thank you for your compassionate poem.  Joyce

dear Harmony,
very pretty and thoughtful.  i always try to be respectful and kind towards the elderly, not only because i see so many young people who aren't, but because i can never know what these people have seen and done in their lifetimes. it's often amazing and inspiring just to talk with them and to hear their stories.
