Nine/Eleven

Has it really been a year
Since that terror from the skies?
Are we any more secure
From another mad surprise?

Heroes lived and heroes died.
We are grateful to them all.
There are more brave folks waiting
Just to hear their country's call.

Have we assessed the reason
Why so many cultures hate us?
Instead of using terror
Why can't they just debate us?

Grant us succor from our pain
Lord. We pray for a just peace.
Be with us 'til that bright day
When all wars and troubles cease.

Joyce,I want to tell you...this is incredible. You gave me goose bumps, and I am not just flattering you. This is a "keeper" for me.If I recall, you said you were "new" to writing.I would never judge it by this superb offering that you have given us.

Gratefully,Geoffrey

Dear Street Heart.  Thank you so much for your kind words.  Yes, I came to poetry very late in life, after I had raised my family and retired from my job.  I had written greetings and jingles but wrote my first poetry after I lost my son in 1999.  It was an outlet for me that has stood me in good stead.  Joyce
