Off 101

When I was seventeen my boyfriend had a Harley Davidson
That summer I loved to ride with him across the Golden Gate
As we rumbled along the highway, six lanes became two
And the ends of my hair prickled my shoulders, flying
While I'd squeeze him when we leaned into the curves
My shirt buzzed behind me like a flag in a gale
And the wind tore at my back and bare ankles and
Through my jeans I could feel the sun burning down.

We'd stop in an old whitewashed diner, screen doors and ceiling fans
Eat cheeseburgers and cherry coke, on red vinyl and chrome
Then lazing on the bench outside, we'd smoke cigarettes, our raybans on
Swishing flies in the shade, and eucalyptus leaves shimmering over our heads
We watched the shadows stretch away from us
Across the pavement in perfect golden silence
Thus fortified, we'd swing our denim legs over the seat again
Back onto the roaring bike and headed back to the city
My fingers curled under his belt, my cheek pressed against his back
And smiling, smiling, smiling.

Annika:-

"Oh, do not ask, 'What is it?'
Let us go and make our visit."

.....

you sure passed those smiles on to my face... thanks for that...

this is nicely penned... has that special soft feeling to it to sit on top of a smooth Harley... liked it...

Sudhir
P.S and thanks for the many kind replies to my posts too...
P.P.S. you might want to run a spell check for a few words in this one

In reply to "which way do we go?", the answer was never "straight", but, "progressively forward".
