Daddy's Overalls

My daddy was my hero, when
I was a little sprite.
To walk along beside him, was
For me a great delight.
I loved the swish of overalls
As he carried the milk.
To me the sound was lovelier
Than soft rustle of silk.
I wondered why my sock clad legs
Would not make that dear sound.
But it really didn't matter,
When Daddy was around.

I vowed he would be like Daddy,
The only kind I'd marry.
I'd hear the swish of overalls
As the milk he'd carry.
Although that was not to happen
In spite of my big talk,
I dressed my son in overalls
The day he learned to walk.

Precious! I'm not sure I remember the sound of the overalls, but I sure remember the milkman. I used to run to get to the bottle first so I could have the cream on the top for my Corn Flakes.

Life sure seemed a lot simpler then.

I enjoyed this and the memories it brought back.  Hugs, Marti

no overalls for us city boys but I sure remember the swish of corduroy trousers...

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

You have vividly brought memories of the walks I had with my grandfather. Thank you for that!

Strange that we think our own memories are unique and then find a responsive chord in the memories of others.  thanks all.  Joyce

I loved this! It reminded me of my grandfather, he was a dairy farmer and it was a rare treat for me to get to go to the milkbarn with him. Thank you for bringing back that memory.
