Where has the day gone
it was here a moment ago
the warm sun carressed
the sky smiled a sweet hello
the earth sang a happy song

Now the darkness approaches
a thief that swallows light
the leaves are no longer green
the trees fade to dull sticks
reaching for a cloudy moon

The chill silence thickens
lies heavy on the tired soul
that which was is no more
gone now with the passing day
should sad tears flow slowly for

The death of a friend dearly loved
now mourned with the deepest heart
only the echos of fond memories
remain to soothe that departed day
until the last spark flickers and dies.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

Dear Pegaus.  I know where my day goes.  It slips away as I sit here reading all of this good stuff.  Love, Joyce

pegasus111:  Much sadness in this lovely poem.  I wonder if life ends much the way a day does, with darkness slowly overtaking us until we fall asleep?  It would be a peaceful way to go.

Pegasus, this is mournful, yet so beautiful...
another twilight fades....but a new star flickers in the heavens...
Peace to you, my friend...

This is such a beautiful poem, I have never really looked at the sun in this way but your words have made it look so much more beautiful. Thank you for sharing.

I love the incredibly poetic and thoughtful replies your poem has engendered. Reading the responses is like the eating the cherries on the cake of your wonderful poem.
