A Flock of Crows

They mowed the southern field today
And left behind long rows of hay,
That will be raked and baled before
It's added to next winter's store.

This evening in amber light,
I watched a flock of crows alight,
To march between the mown rows
And strike a sudden, watchful pose.

They stare around with beady eyes
And pierce the air with raucous cries.
They act as though they own this place
And we have trespassed on their space!

As twilight starts to fade away,
They caw and rise in disarray,
To fly back to their roosting tree.
They pique my curiosity!

They often come and hang about.
We interest them, I have no doubt.
I often listen for the sound
That tells me crows are still around.

Joyce:  Thanks for commenting.  What has happened to all the poets on this site?

I don't know.  There are so many missing.  Maybe it just the summer is keeping them busy elsewhere.  Joyce

Hi Joyce:  Well it looks like you and I had better start posting here.  Remember when we kept another site open all by ourselves?
