The Peas and Me

My father called me Girlie.
It was his favorite name.
No one else has called me that
And it wouldn't be the same.

He always had a garden
That was wonderful to see.
I enjoyed the section he
Had devoted to the pea!

I liked to go and lie there
By tall, green rows and dream.
If I ate a pea or two,
It was all part of my scheme.

The empty pods I left and there
Were usually quite a few.
When my father went to pick,
Of course, at once, he knew!

He told me not to eat them
And I did try to obey,
But when I'd pass that pea patch,
They just called to me to stay.

He'd come out on the porch and yell
And his voice was filled with pain:
"Girlie, are you out there
In that pea patch, once again?"

Of course, I never answered
And he never came to see,
But we both knew I was guilty.
Just as guilty as could be!

This is very reminiscent of my daddy's garden.  I love it.  Joyce

Trillum, you've just shared a very cute and heartwarming poem. I've enjoyed reading Girlie's (sumptuous) pea story.

mycafe:  I'm glad you enjoyed this story of my youthful escapade in the pea patch! What a trial I was to my poor Dad!

Peter rabbit had nothing on you...   This is delightful.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

pegasus111:  Thanks so much for commenting. I have this lovely memory of my Dad and how he wanted me to stay out of his garden, but yet he never enforced his rules, because he knew how much I enjoyed it.
