Moose Moment

Behind our house there is a wood
And at the tree line, one day, stood
A moose who stuck her long nose out
And had a careful look about.
Then she withdrew, but afterwhile
She was back. It made me smile,
To see an awkward calf in tow.
I could see she meant to go
Across a corner of the field,
To deeper woods and there concealed,
She left her calf and stepping high,
Ambled down to a creek nearby,
To wade on in and drink her fill.
Then to some aspens on a hill
And there she stayed to pick and munch
On low-hanging leaves, for lunch.
But not for long, she had to see
Her calf was where he's meant to be.
Now that we know they're there, we'll spy
From our windows and we'll try
To give her peacefulness of days
Until we go our separate ways!

you are truly the nature queen dear. lovely piece you have shared with us.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

What a marvellous glimpse of one of Nature's creatures, Betty Lou!  And how well you describe the "mommy" instinct at work...You are indeed fortunate to have these wonders so near!

pegasus111:  Thanks for responding.  I am always so thrilled when I observe something wild in it's natural setting, I always want to share it.  Do you think people get tired of reading about it?  Not everyone loves nature as I do I know.
