Owl At Evening

From my window, I can see
High up in a cottonwood tree,
A great horned owl, whose tufted ears
Magnify each sound he hears.

He turns his head so he can spy
On any moving thing nearby,
But after while he ghosts away.
Is lost within the evening's gray.

Then, later on, I hear the sound
That tells me he is still around.
Deep throated hoots.You can't mistake
The call a great horned owl can make!

This is lovely Betty Lou. Owls are amazing creatures. Your nature poems are among my favorites.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

This is beautiful Betty as always.  We have the owls here too and see them just once in a while. Another of God's splendid creatures. It's moved on now but I have a poem in Open 21 about how you introduced me to these forums.  I have no idea where it is resting now.   Love, Joyce

Joyce:  Thanks for commenting on the owl poem. Glad that you have them around too. So many places, they are now gone.

That was nice of you to mention that I had introduced you to Passions.  I seldom go to Open, but will see if I can find it. Thanks
for letting me know.

Dear Betty, your poem reminded me of fairytales I knew when I was a kid. Its hard to describe that feeling, very surreal, with a touch of nostalgy. Very, very peaceful!
I like it
