The Voice of Nature

The voice of nature speaks to me
In many places that I see.
I hear her in the ocean's roar
And pounding surf along the shore.
Within the winds, both light and strong.
Each sings a special kind of song.
The trees that rustle overhead,
Repeating things that nature said.
She speaks at times most quietly.
Who cannot hear her when you see
The silvery beauty of the night
Beneath a winter's moon, so bright!

In flaming sky of dusk or morn
A thousand melodies are born.
In songs of birds, she surely gives
Enchantment to each soul that lives
And midnight skies, with stars a-blaze,
Sing symphonies to all who gaze.
In every field and flower face,
In every stream where waters race.
In clouds that drift or mass on high.
In every wild and haunted cry
From out the woods, that rends the dark
And in each tree, whose weathered bark
Weeps tears of sap, that meet and flow
To crystallize on roots below.

Out where the mountains fill the skies
With rugged grandeur, there she cries
In voice of eagle, spiralling
On rising air, with widespread wing.
In thunderstorms or falling snow
And rain or river, there I know
That every sound upon my ear
Is nature speaking and I hear
Her voice in everything around,
That flies in air or walks the ground.
For all of life, somehow takes part
In music spawned in nature's heart.
A universal symphony,
That fills our lives with poetry!

Oh my, I just loved this. All that nature and it's voices in one place. Very special indeed. Bless you...Hugs, Marti

Joyce:  Thank you!  I dream of that very thing, a book of my own!  I suppose most of us do.
