In a Dark Ocean

Out in a dark ocean, someplaces tonight,
The great whales are leaping, beneath the pale light
The moon in it's waning, casts feebly below
And is aided by stars, that glitter and glow.

Out in a dark ocean, translucent and green,
Where strange creatures surface, but are seldom seen,
I'm wondering if there is silence out there
Or if dolphins speak when they come up for air?

Do songs of the humpbacks drift eerily by
To lift with the sea-mist into the night sky
And do mermaids surface, to drift on the tide,
In hopes that the flying-fish give them a ride>

Out in a dark ocean, where sea-horses sway
And otters eat oysters, do pearls slip away,
To fall through the darkness with barely a gleam
And heap on the bottom, like globules of cream?

I'd like to see into that wonderful world.
Anemones flower, with fringes unfurled
And move with the currents that bring food their way.
Where colored corals add to the reefs every day.

Out in a dark ocean, beneath a dim sky,
Ten thousands of creatures are born, live and die
And while they float freely, in their world so grand,
We humans must travel through life on the land!

This is wonderful Betty.  What a lovely world escapes us in the depths of the ocean, but somehow you have found it.  Love, Joyce

WOW!!  This is incredible. What a masterful interpretation of the sea and it's mysteries. A mixture of truth and fantasy. Bravo!

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost
