His footprints now are firm and deep
from long-limbed strides across his day.
Yet in those prints I see the shape
of toddler's feet in eager play.

His hands are skilled, and on the wall
now hangs an engineer's degree.
But in those hands I still see swirls
of pat-a-cake and claps of glee.

He walks beside his own small child;
they play their games, sing off-key songs.
Thus life continues, hand-in-hand,
and love still fits where it belongs.
