Her happily-ever-after dream
was not a palace, gowns or pearls.
She saw a simple garden gate,
a fireplace, white curtain swirls;
a home with laughter, warm and fresh,
where children learned and parents spoke
with tenderness. For just a while,
she held her dream. But then it broke.

She clings to fragments that remain,
stares back along a battered trail
and signs she recognized too late.
She must erase the fairy tale;
her focus now is to protect
her children, teach them how to fly.
She has no soft-swirled dreams to give --
just love that lives in every sigh.

You have done well with this, telling us just enough to know there has been suffering and survival.  Bravo.  Joyce

This poem reads of strenth and loss and an enduruing love...exquisite!

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.
