Rhymeless

The English language is not rich
In words that rhyme so could we switch
To foreign words or now and then
Make up a word with our own pen?

I wrote a poem on noisy birds
And running short of rhyming words
I made one up, the word was "twatter".
I needed it to rhyme with matter.

Clatter or chatter might have fit,
But both of them were wrong a bit.
Birds don't clatter, birds don't chatter,
But those noisy birds could twatter.

And there are very many times
There just is not a word that rhymes.
We could use a word like boringe
(Boring E)nglish rhymed with orange.

So Mr. Webster take a bow.
You've done a good job up to now.
Have some pity for the poet
Out of rhymes. Wants you to know it.

Joyce,

This is really a cute write. I know there have been many times that I've searched for a word to rhyme and it just wasn't to be had. I think you've developed the perfect solution.

Being rhymeless is almost as bad as being clueless when it comes to interpreting a poem, but with this, you left no stone unturned.  It was both charming, and witty!

This is so clever Joyce!  So many times I've been in exactly this same place..... in need of that special word to rhyme with what I've written and it is nonexistent!

Thank you Nan.  Please always open my poems for I almost invariably write in rhyme.  Joyce
