Darkness After Dawn

In the darkness after the dawn
as the world sleeps in quiet repose
and the night sounds slowly fade
my thoughts embrace tattered memories

so many to contemplate in truth
stripped to the core in raw display
marching in a wavering line to the slow beat
of the drummer boy of lost yesterdays

dusty pages turn in ghostly cadence
oblivious to the gasps of the multitude
pleading for another hour, another day,
another chance to make it right again

the grey keeper of reality heeds not
these cries swept away by the night
what is done is eternally written
etched in the darkness after dawn.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

So many lines, ring so true with their touch of reality.  A mournful dirge that echoes in the hallways of the past...how difficult it is to let go.

Very good Pegasus.  the pages of our lives are written with indelible ink.  Some of them it would be nice to rewrite.  Others it would be wonderful to live again.  But it is not to be.  Very well done.  Joyce

Know what you mean and sometimes I wish i could do something about it but you write the feeling well

I'm wise enough now not to let cool get to me.

Powerful write. Memories, good or bad, certainly do surface at this quiet time.

Thanks,
Melton

the ebb and flow of this poem is exquisitely done, Peg. As the saying goes ..the past is perfect and the future only a mist, so today is the day to live well...

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.
