Sounds of Country

On country roads I like to drive,
Where small farms keep the past alive
And where the trees, in early spring,
With flower-laden branches, fling
Sweet petals on each passing breeze
And offer nectar to the bees.

It's there you see the lambs at play
And little ducklings make their way
Behind their mother, beak to tail.
You hear the mourning dove and quail.
They add their voice to other song
That makes a background, all day long.

It's here you find the people who
Care for the land in all they do
And when the evening fills the sky,
I like to watch the night hawks fly.
I hope that I can always stay
Where sounds of country end the day!

Thanks Joyce.  I've lived in the county now for so many years, I don't know how I would fare if I had to move to town.

Marge:  Hopefully the sounds of the new country will be equally as nice as the ones you're leaving. Maybe you could tranplant a few?

You write such peaceful pieces. I love the cadence, too.

Thanks,

this is melodic. A sweet tribute to the gentle country living us city folk like to escape to. Your description of sight and sound is compelling.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost
