Treasure in the Sand

The desert's beauty is austere,
But casts a spell that brings me here
To walk in sand like drifted snow.
The desert sky is pale, as though,
While staring at the ground below,
The glare has radiated so,
It bleached the blue from out the air.
The tall cliffs rising, black and bare,
Enclose a portion and I find
That arrowheads are left behind,
From ancient Indian tribes that camped
And over this same place have tramped.
There is a tingling in the hand
That plucks this treasure from the sand
And fingering the polished plane,
I wonder at the years it's lain,
A relic in an arid sea,
Just waiting for someone like me,
To find this piece of history!

Lovely piece of history and a wonderful description of your feelings, Betty...

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

BettyLou~
This piece has the most beautiful flow to it~
I found myself 'canting' it aloud~

You 'knew' I'd find such beauty in it ... and I did~

I have a beautiful arrowhead that a poet member
(who isn't here anymore) sent to me~
I treasure it dearly~

Thank you for the beauty of your stirring writes~

Marge:  Thank you for all your wonderful comments.  When we lived in Nevada near the Black Rock Desert, we used to go hunting for arrowheads.  Even the spring near our mine, had them scattered around. Obviously it was a camping spot in the past for Paiute Indians.  We have about a diozen that we kept and distributed the others to friends and family.  It was a thrill each time we found one and still enjoy them.
