Spring Hearted

There's a cadence in the wind.
The creek is singing too,
For winter's nearly over
And spring is showing through.
I see it in the mallards
Who've gathered in the field,
To paddle in the puddles
And see if they will yield,
Water plants and grubby things
That they like best to eat.
Watching shiny heads of green,
Trade places with their feet!

Partridges are drumming from
A downed tree in the glade.
Poised upon a branch, a squirrel,
Will make a sudden raid
Sunflower seeds to capture,
I put out for the jays.
This all speaks of spring to me
In varied, pleasant ways.

Spring is in the sticky sap
That oozes from the trees
And in the geese seen flying
In trailing, changing v's.
In buttercups and crocus
That mark the season's start.
Most of all, I am aware,
That spring is in my heart!

Lovely Betty Lou....what a grand picture you have created here.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

Spring is also in your eyes, Betty.  You see so much that the rest of us miss.  Very good.  Joyce

I like the rhythm in your poem. You have pictured spring perfectly.

Thanks,

Betty, honestly you bring the spring out in me! I planted some new flowers but a bunny ate them. I felt bummed out about it, all that work mowed down to a nub, but there's more in the store!
Love your imagery with this one too.

pegasus111:  Thanks! I actually wrote this last April, I am hoping it will inspire spring to do something here! It's still cold and rainy.

Deb:  Thanks for your remarks and I'm sorry the bunnies ate your flowers.  It's always a disappointment after you work hard to put them in.  Hopefully they'll have other things to eat when you do your next planting.  Here in the mountain valley we live in, I don't plant anything until Mother's Day.  The family brings me plants and we spend a few hours planting all the beds and boxes. It's become a tradition.
