Somewhere
in the tangle skeins of lost years
the night sky disappeared.
Under hushed breath,
an easy sweep of no wings,
the graceful glide into dreams.
To perch in leafy treetops;
darting among the branches,
singing out with a heart that hungers
to trace the clouds in the distant sky
with a curvature of flashing white.
As the sun sets in a sea-green haze,
there is a call, a whisper of the wild wind.
“Come, fly with me.”

How I ache
for those nights of freedom.
What have I lost, because
I don’t dream of flying anymore?

WordDancer~
To dream IS to fly ...
soaring among colored day-wishes~

This is wistfully beautiful and kind of sad~
An enjoyable traipse among your thoughts~

I think you will soon fly again.
Wonderful imagery entwined with your free flowing words.

it is sad when one stops dreaming. It suggests the absence of a future and a dissatisfaction with the present. As usual, your words dance across the page.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

Peg, dreams are such fleeting things that disappear at the first touch of reality, perhaps it is better to not dream at all.  Thanks for the comment about my dancing words

Rosepetals, how lovely of you to say that!

wordancer;  I love the poem!  I often dream that I am flying and it is such a wonderful feeling, I hate to wake up!  It always is at night and the night sky is marvelous! This really was a poem I could relate to.
