Freedom Gained

I visited my inner self
And took down from a dusty shelf,
A box of hoarded memories,
I opened with some rusty keys.
With trembling hands, I sorted all.
Each one was painful to recall.
I knew that I must set them free
If I could ever hope to be
A whole, unfettered person who
Could give my best to all I do.

The roaring of the blood that sped
Throughout my body, filled my head
With so much noise, I threw these things
Into the air and gave them wings.
I opened up my mouth so I
Could say farewell and let them fly.
The rushing of their passage there
Left fading echoes in the air.
Then I collapsed when I was through.
The box was empty.I was too!

But gradually, the ennui passed.
With joy, I realized at last,
The freedom gained would see me through
The present and the future too!

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

Sometimes it's so hard to let them go, isn't it? Excellent expression, Betty Lou! I could feel your freedom!

Denise:  Thanks for commenting.  I still have a few hang-ups I'm afraid but have moved on from many of them.
