12:05am

Waves of thunder
roll over a sleeping town,
blinking red lights
sway in the winds,
casting an eerie glow
across darkened buildings
closed for the night.

Streetlights are few,
but here and there,
the ghostly blue glow
of a television screen
filters through opened windows,
their muted sounds
carried away by the rain.

Two blocks away
a truck passes through town,
the wail of it's horn
briefly shattering the stillness;
a lonely forlorn sound.

Down a quiet side street,
tucked into a stand of trees,
a soft yellow light glows
from a single window
of a nondescript house,
within sits a solitary writer,
contemplating the portrait
of a small, quiet town
on a Saturday night.

You drew a clear picture of quiet and lonliness.  Very stark.  Joyce

oh, this paints a very surreal picture...familiar and strange at the same time.

Jonas,

I like this, so vivid and clear. I can almost see the street

Hugs,

Jonas:  You have described the scene so well! Created a special atmosphere that one can feel while reading the poem.

Excellent poetry! So real and softly done...ah the warmth and comfort of that small light called home.

I could see and hear your surroundings as you sat and wrote this.

Wonderful, greatly enjoyed

Thank you all for reading. I lived in that town for 5 years, and I do miss the peaceful nights there.
