Reed

I stand in water night and day.
For me, it is the only way.
My slender body is but one
Of thousands, stretching towards the sun.
With every breeze, we sway and bend
And many are the birds who spend
Some time upon our pliant heads.
Or rest within their hidden beds.
The ducks and geese come here to eat
And in the summer's torpid heat,
The dragonflies, with wings of lace,
All dart and hover. On each face,
Are bulging eyes that stare around
For any insects to be found.
The muskrat comes and beaver too,
Who make their narrow passage through
The mass of reeds.I am content
To lead this life, for which I'm meant!

Ah, Betty, this poem is sheer beauty of nature at her most wondrous! Ellie

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.

Betty..you have done it again. what a grand slice of nature this is. And the lines...ahhh, they flow like liquid silk. Bravo!

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

ellie:  Thank you for the nice comments. I am always trying to imagine what it's like to be some specific part of nature. Glad you liked this.

Just a fascinating piece~

'The dragonflies, with wings of lace,
All dart and hover. On each face,
Are bulging eyes that stare around
For any insects to be found.'

Oh ... the dragonflies were dancing all over the yard this weekend~

Marge:  Thanks for reading and I enjoyed your dragonflies!  It will be some time before we see any here.  I always enjoy watching them.
