The day is cold and splashed with grey,
an old film noir in black and white,
empty of meaningful feeling or direction,
it surrounds me like a still life painting,

going nowhere, doing nothing, it hangs,
tilted to all who view it, nature’s vertigo,
dulling the mind, numbing the soul endlessly,
the rotted remains of a beauty long past,

finally giving way to the chaotic night
of bitter cold, a cruel slashing wind,
moving randomly, a mindless invisible thing,
piercing the heart like a frozen bayonet,

nowhere to hide, nowhere to seek shelter,
pursued in dogged, relentless cruelty,
until the will expires in a final gasp,
the light of hope flickers and is gone,

only the black, unyielding night remains,
and the soul screams with a sickening cry
for escape, for the end of the awful pain,
but the night ends, and the same day begins anew.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

Oh dear Pegasus.  I hope you don't live in this world.  It's chilling.  Joyce

I too hope this is only imaginings....beautifully written, yet horrifyingly dark and lacking the usual hope and beuty of which you usually write...more wildflowers, please...

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.

pegasus111:  Almost painful to read, there is so much torment.  Hopefully, there is a glimmer of light somewhere!
