my first love was married today
and I drove the whole long way
to Chicago, just to see her wed

her man and I are friends as well
and in truth I know him better still
in many ways than I ever did my love

she still gives the same great looks
she still studies countless books
and i wonder why I ever let her get away

then I recall with soft stilled heart
she was the one who made us part
to honor her mother as the Good Book says you should

that was years, and years ago
though time has passed I still love her so
but deeper than a friend and less than a lover true

true love...cares not for self
and any desires for her I shelve
to honor her, as the Good Book says we should

so I rejoice for her day of Bride
and praise the Groom at her heartside
and pray always, and forever, they be One.

" and I dream of her always,
even when I don't dream.
her name's on my tongue
and her blood's in my stream."

Soltice Son:  This is very loving and generous.  I hope the new couple will be happy and benefit from your love and friendship for them.

My heart goes out to you for the loss of your love.  It seems sometimes that a few of us will remain forever in a world without love.

May you be one of the lucky ones that the powers-that-be shall shine upon to bring you a love much deeper and more rewarding than the one you needed to set free...

Beautiful and sad...I too wish for you a love beyond your wildest dreams! Ellie

thanks everyone....love is a funny complexity...that is so simple a child can understand it...which must be why I am so often confused!!!

I agree...it is very generous of you!  Sounds like you've grown up to be a thoughtful man...one who thinks of others before himself!     Good people!  I'm so glad to be on your list of friends!

Solstice Son,

I can so relate to this, better than you could ever guess.  I really enjoyed it
