The air is cold, it whispers snow,
And since there's no place I must go,
I'll nestle in our little den
And let my thoughts go back to when
You were beside me in our nest.

You always liked to be prepared
For winter, so we would be spared
The difficulties it could bring.
We'd hunker down and wait for spring.
You taught me well, I've passed the test,

I think.  The furnace-oil barrel's full.
The covers on our bed are wool.
There's plenty on the shelves to eat.
And so I sit here by the heat
And know that I have done my best

To care for me, as you'd have done,
When winter was a lot more fun.

ahhh  Joyce, so many reminders of a more perfect past. Will the ache never end? There is no escape, for the past is everywhere. Look to the present to gain respite. hugs.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost
